First, let's get the obvious stuff out of the way—I've been drawn to photography and the arts for as long as I can remember. I find so much meaning in creativity, and the processing of capturing and manipulating my environment with a camera stands out as an especially potent way of expressing my perspective.
If my work has any common theme, it's that there is no common theme. There is no one representative subject, style, or medium that sums up what I do. Developing a signature style is too often hailed as the end goal of learning an art. Some people are indeed best suited by finding one type of image they want to make and focusing on that, honing their skillset with that specific goal in mind. But in my journey with photography, sticking to one theme has felt impossibly stifling. There are too many things to see and too many ways to see them, and it only seems fair to honor that diversity with a variety of stylistic choices. Bouncing between techniques is my way of showing love for all the beauty the world has to offer.
That's what I love about photography—it encourages the photographer to explore, seek out what is intriguing, and share what they discover. I love photography because I love the sky, the ground, light and life, shadow and decay. By selecting unusual framing and subjects, and using processing to further redirect my viewer’s attention, I hope to inspire myself and others to appreciate fragments of our surroundings that could easily pass unnoticed. Putting time and thought into a photograph is how I venerate everything I'm grateful to have seen.
